Astronaut Chris Ferguson, who was expected to serve as the commander of Boeing’s first test flight to space next year, announced he’ll be giving up the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity due to “several commitments” he cannot afford to miss.

In a video posted to his Twitter account on Wednesday, Ferguson, 59, revealed the news, calling the decision “difficult and personal,” but reassured his followers that he remains “deeply committed to human spaceflight.”

Though the astronaut remained mostly general in his explanation — only saying that the decision was due to prioritizing his family and important commitments — a spokesperson at Boeing confirms to PEOPLE that one of those commitments included his daughter’s wedding.

“I want to share with you a difficult and personal decision I’ve had to make,” he said in the clip. “I have chosen to step aside as commander of the crewed flight test, scheduled

FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) — Steven Shoemaker and Kirsten Haigh tied the knot in the courtyard of a Fullerton skilled nursing home to be sure Kirsten’s 89-year-old grandma wouldn’t miss it.

Here’s Why NeNe Leakes Might Not Attend Cynthia Bailey’s Wedding

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey is ready to marry Fox sportscaster Mike Hill on October 10, but her on-again-off-again bestie NeNe Leakes may not be in attendance.

Bailey told Page Six that Leakes’ falling out with Bravo could mean she’ll be a no-show, “Honestly, with everything going on as far as her leaving the show, I wasn’t sure how comfortable she’d be attending the wedding knowing she has issues [with Bravo]. You just never know what someone is going through, but she’s still more than welcome to come.”

The model and reality tv star also added, “Regardless of where NeNe and I are in our relationship, she was good for the show. I’m always going to give her props for that, you can’t take away all she’s done for the Atlanta franchise.”

Couple marries at Grand Rapids dialysis center so father-of-the-bride can attend

WYOMING, MI – An intimate wedding ceremony was held outside a Grand Rapids-area dialysis center over the weekend so the bride’s father, who is in hospice care, could give her away.

Connie Gee and Matt Tsuchiya, of Portland, Ore., traveled to Michigan to tie the knot after a two-month engagement, The Associated Press reports. Wearing masks and protective gowns, they said their vows on Saturday, Sept. 26, outside Fresenius clinic in Wyoming after Gee’s father, Ernest Gee, finished a dialysis treatment and before he returned to hospice.

Visits with Ernest Gee have been restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tsuchiya asked permission to marry his daughter through a nursing home window. Ernest Gee asked who would give his daughter away, AP reports.

“I knew we had to figure out how to have him be able to give me away,” Connie Gee said.

She described Saturday’s ceremony as “very emotional,” AP
