Are you prepared to die? I am, and that’s the right way to live.

Most of these people, it’s fair to say, were not planning on a sudden death. Many died alone in hospitals, and too often they didn’t have the opportunity to bid loved ones farewell. Caring.com reported that before the pandemic hit, fewer than half those 55 and older had completed estate-planning documents (such as a will, a living will, and designating a medical power of attorney). Among those 18 to 34, it was a paltry 16 percent.

The No. 1 reason for everyone: I haven’t gotten around to it.

Covid-19 has claimed the lives of several people I know in recent months; sadly, they weren’t the only deaths in my personal and aging circle. Barry Owen, 67, a friend and former partner, died of pancreatic cancer in May, a year after being diagnosed. Shortly after being told he had Stage 4 of the disease, he posted on his Caring Bridge site,

The Hallmark Channel’s 2020 Christmas movie lineup is looking awesome

Can you believe we’re already talking about Christmas? Given the oddities that 2020 has brought along with it, we welcome the holidays with a renewed sense of hope and are oh-so-excited about what next year will be all about. One of our favorite markers of the beginning of the season is the Hallmark Holiday movie marathon, comprised of both the Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas lineup and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ Miracles of Christmas roster. Today, we’ve got both lineups ready for you to dissect.

Although production on the following films was obviously halted given worldwide stay-at-home orders, crews were able to get back on track—albeit following newly released COVID-19 safety practices while on set.

Expect Lacey Chabert, Candace Cameron Bure, Holly Robinson Peete and others to grace your small screens in the upcoming months, while you cozy up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa, some fuzzy

Go for presence over presents this Father’s Day

Still deciding on the perfect gift to get dad this Father’s Day? We’ve got just the thing, and it won’t cost you a dollar … quality time. Call it cheesy, but the best gifts in life really are free. And if there’s one thing this year has taught us, it’s to not take the people you love for granted.

We put so much focus on material possessions but ask anyone who was separated from a loved one during COVID-19 and I bet they’d all agree that nothing bought in a

Marriage licenses are down, but dreams of planning a wedding can’t be dampened

Not even a pandemic can completely dampen wedding dreams. Sure, travel is discouraged to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and only 50, well-spaced guests can gather outdoors to celebrate a couple in places like Multnomah County that are still in Phase I of reopening.

No wonder marriage license requests fell 32% in Multnomah County in August, compared to last August, according to county spokeswoman Julie Sullivan-Springhetti.

Still, brides and grooms are making plans for a small ceremony — a mini wedding — or are deciding to postpone until post pandemic to tie the knot. Shutterfly guarantees peace of mind with this offer: It will reprint cards for free if the date changes.

More good news: Internet searches of wedding supplies and services are starting to rebound after abruptly stopping in early spring when stay-at-home orders were issued.

Photographer Crystal Genes, founder of NW Wedding Underground, says she’s receiving inquiries
