The cast of Father Of The Bride have reunited for a virtual, online Netflix sequel – you can watch it below.

The original cast of the film reunited for the first time in 25 years on Friday (September 25) to take part in Father Of The Bride Part 3 (ish).

Deemed a “special sequel”, the film caught up with the Banks family on a Zoom call for a special wedding-related announcement.

Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kieran Culkin, Martin Short all reprised their roles for the 25-minute film. They were also joined by some additional cast members including Alexandra Shipp, Ben Platt, Florence Pugh, and Robert DeNiro.

Diane Keaton, Steve Martin, Kieran Culkin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Martin Short and George Newbern came together for a special “Part 3(ish),” of the movie series, written and directed by Nancy Meyers.

Ben Platt and Florence Pugh joined the cast, as the now grown-up babies from the second film.

The special Zoom event aired on Netflix’s YouTube channel and was introduced by Reese Witherspoon, with money raised going towards the World Central Kitchen.

The reunion was set in the Covid-19 era and Steve’s character George wore a face mask and encouraged his family to use Clorox wipes.

Culkin’s character Matty revealed he was planning to marry his girlfriend Rachel, played by Alexandra Shipp, during the family Zoom call.

The cast of Father of the Bride reunited after 25 years, bringing back many original characters for a Zoom-style new story in what Netflix is calling a “special sequel.” Running about a half hour long, the quasi-sequel, dubbed Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish), was made available to watch for free on Netflix’s Facebook and YouTube pages. A more diverse and inclusive reboot of the 1991 comedy Father of the Bride is in development at Warner Bros., multiple sources have told Collider.

Matt Lopez has been tapped to write the script, and he has plenty of experience writing family films, with credits including the Adam Sandler vehicle Bedtime Stories, as well as Race to Witch Mountain and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Father of the Bride was, itself, a remake of the 1950 film of the same name starring Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. The ’91 version starred Steve Martin as George Banks, who is reluctant to let go of his daughter when he finds out that he’s getting married. Eventually, he learns to accept with his new son-in-law, realizing that as long as his daughter is happy, he’s happy. This new Latinx reboot is expected to tweak the premise a bit to help distinguish itself
