Twilight of the Tribe: The Wedding that Wasn’t

SYMBOL OF GAY POWER

“I always wanted a formal wedding,” Jackie Curtis said, weeks before the wedding, as she chalked the marriage announcement on the sidewalk outside the Albert Hotel: Superstars Jackie Curtis (“Flesh,” “Cock Strong,” “The Moke-eaters”) and Eric Emerson (“Chelsea Girls,” “Lonesome Cowboys”) to Be Married on July 21. Everyone Welcome! “Even when I was a little child, I dreamed about getting married in a beautiful white gown and everything, with rice and a minister and a cake and a handsome husband. Eric is very handsome, you know, he is really very handsome.”

Last week her wedding happened— scheduled, the press release said, “to coincide spiritually and metaphysically with the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. Which will be the bigger event? Only history will tell.”

It was a depressing and a discomforting occasion. About 100 of her friends were there on the East 11th Street roof, among

Fears people may be ‘factoring in Covid fines’ as a wedding cost as illegal gatherings continue to rise

Posted on by iwano@_84

People may be ‘factoring in Covid fines’ as a wedding cost with Greater Manchester Police breaking up several marriage celebrations, the deputy mayor fears.

Baroness Beverley Hughes says weddings ‘increasingly feature’ in the list of police call-outs to illegal gatherings, which is rising by the week.

Last month GMP handed out fines after around 100 people were found at a wedding party in Bolton, while another party was stopped in Manchester.

According to the latest government guidance, weddings and civil partnership ceremonies are limited to 15 people in both Bolton and Manchester provided that the venue is Covid-secure and social distancing requirements are met.

GMP continues to respond to reports of parties and funerals, with some funerals so large that they have required their own police operations.

This has added to ongoing resource issues within the force, which is spending up to £100,000 on special operations every weekend.

A matrimonial advertisement has created quite the buzz on social media for seeking unreasonable qualities in the prospective bride. The matrimonial ad put out by a 37-year-old lawyer from West Bengal mentioned that the bride must not be “addicted to social media.”

Apart from the usual regressive and sexist demands of a “fair, beautiful, tall, and slim bride”, the certain Chatterjee who boasts of practising yoga and being ‘handsome’ and ‘fair’, also wants a bride who will not be a social media addict.

The unusual demand of the prospective groom who claims to be an advocate in the high court caught the eyes of IAS officer Nitin Sangwan, who shared it on social media from his Twitter handle.

Only 15 guests are allowed to attend wedding ceremonies and receptions at COVID-secure locations in England – but the occasion was organised in just three weeks to create the special drive-in experience and allow more people to enjoy the couple’s big day.

The ceremony was held directly in front of a small number of immediate family – and shown on a screen outside where guests were watching from more than 100 parked cars.

Wedding entertainer Nik Edser said “we have had so many bookings cancelled because of the dancing rules” and has called for the State Government to ease the restriction.

“The irony is if I was invited to a wedding this weekend to attend with my wife and I wanted to dance with her there, then I wouldn’t be allowed to,” he said.

Indian-Origin Couple’s Drive-In Wedding To Bypass Covid Guest Limit Rule In UK

Posted on by iwano@_84

Under the UK guidelines, only 15 people are allowed to be part of wedding ceremonies.

London:

An Indian-origin couple, keen not to delay their wedding plans despite a strict restriction on the number of guests allowed to assemble under England’s coronavirus lockdown rules, are celebrating this week after pulling off a first-of-its-kind drive-in wedding near London.

Londoners Roma Popat and Vinal Patel were originally due to get married on April 20 but when lockdown disrupted their plans, they discussed the concept of a drive-in wedding with their wedding coordinator, Saheli Events, almost as a tongue-in-cheek thought rather than a serious plan.

However, what began as a joke became a reality last Friday, when the couple were married in front of a small gathering of their immediate family with the ceremony being projected onto a big screen in a field next door to friends and family seated in more than 100
